OUTRIDER CATEGORY (created and approved by EPG 02/14/2021)

The Outrider category has been created due to the current ammunition shortage. This category may also be used for shooters who are just beginning Cowboy Action Shooting. In addition to single action pistols and lever action rifles, it allows a shooter to use .22 caliber pistol(s) and lever or pump action rifles. There will be a men’s and women’s category. Allowable ammo and firearms are as listed below. These rules apply only to all El Posse Grande monthly matches up to such time as the ammo shortage is resolved and the category is dissolved by the match director.

Ammunition:

  • .45 Caliber to .22 Caliber
  • NO jacketed or semi-jacketed bullets
  • Shotgun #7 or #8 lead shot only
  • For .22 Caliber ONLY – Knockdowns do not have to fall as long as they were hit.

Pistols:

  • Any single action pistol .45 caliber to .22 caliber.

  • If a semi-automatic pistol is used it must be cleared on the firing line under the direction of the RO.

Rifles:

  • Any lever or pump action rifles .45 caliber to .22 caliber
  • No semi-automatic rifles allowed

Shotgun:

  • Any SASS legal shotgun is allowed.
